Double Olympic gold for Tunbridge Wells skier

A Tunbridge Wells resident has won two gold medals at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Representing Team GB, Jane Andrews is currently taking part in the games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Jane, 35, has been an alpine skier for more than 20 years and in January 2012 won three gold medals at the Great Britain Nationals in Pila, Italy, in the Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super Giant Slalom categories.

“Special Olympics means a lot to me,” Jane says. “It has helped me realise my potential for doing Alpine Ski Racing. I never thought when I started out in this sport that I would have such opportunities for training and competition. I’ve seen great improvements in my skiing and I’ve grown in confidence.”

Jane trained for the 2013 World Winter Games at the Bowles Outdoor Pursuits Centre and Bromley Ski Centre, as well as attending regular gym sessions at the fitness centre in St. Johns, Tunbridge Wells.

Jane works at Sainsbury’s in Tunbridge Wells and is an active member at St Matthew’s Church in High Brooms, where she volunteers her time as a Sunday School assistant and serves as a member of the Welcome and Ministry Team which helps lead worship once a month.

“Special Olympics has changed my life immensely,” Jane comments. “I’ve become a more confident skier, I’ve made new friends and I’ve developed my skiing further by training and taking part in competitions here in the UK and abroad.”

More than 100 nations participated in the event in South Korea, with 2,800 athletes with intellectual disabilities taking part.

Good to see that someone is doing something worthwhile... Hard to do these days: what with this wretched 'coalition' (ie: Tory Scum!) government...

Will 'Apple & Berry's' be completed, Chris? I am sick of seeing sites full of Rihanna, Katy Perry and fucking One Direction mashups LOL!

You have been away too long, pal...

All the best from Mcr

Hi Chris

I just wanted to let you know that I was inspired by your work to create a mashup album of my own. It's called "Off White" and is based on the Beatles' White Album.

I am a great admirer of "Revolved" and "Cracked Pepper", and of the tracks you have previewed from "Apples and Berry's". I seem to remember a comment on one of your blogs after the release of "Cracked Pepper" (I can't find it now) but it said "now it's your turn". I took that literally and for the past two years have worked in my spare time to create a follow-up based on the White Album.

I don't pretend that "Off White" comes anywhere close to matching the quality of your work, but if it gives anyone enjoyment, then that's good enough for me.

It can be listened to or downloaded here:

I once read a Pete Townshend interview from 1966: Pete had not taken to overproduced records ('Pet Sounds' in particular)). He said 'The current scene is horrible! Groups in gaudy clothes, singing 'Fa La La!' What we need is The Beatles to crawl out of their hole with a really simple pop single.'

The next Fabs single was 'Paperback Writer/Rain' (not as simple as Pete probably had in mind!). But the mashup/boots scene is now even more stagnant than the music scene Pete was complaining about.

What we need is CCC to come out of his hole, and bring with him some new classic mashups.....
